If you feel nervous about visiting the dentist, you're definitely not alone - dental anxiety is more common than you might think. At Ferry Dental Centre, we understand that these worries can come from concerns about pain, needles, or past experiences. Many people also feel uneasy in clinical settings or worry about being judged.
That's why we've designed our clinic to feel more like a hotel spa than a dental office. With high ceilings and expansive windows that fill the space with natural light, our practice creates a sense of openness and calm. For those who feel especially nervous, we now offer IV sedation options to help you relax and feel at ease during treatment.
Before your treatment begins, a small IV is gently placed in your hand or arm to deliver a sedative that brings on a relaxed, peaceful state.
You'll remain awake and able to respond to simple instructions, but you'll feel calm and at ease. Many patients find that they remember little of the procedure afterward, making the visit feel much quicker and more comfortable.
If you'd like to know if sedation is a good option for you, contact us to discuss your concerns - we're here to help.
We understand that feeling calm and comfortable during dental treatment makes all the difference. Sedation can provide a calming experience and help ease any worry.
Sedation enables you to feel at ease even during lengthy procedures
You'll be awake and able to communicate, but afterwards, you likely won't remember the details of your treatment
Feelings of stress and fear fade away, allowing you to focus less on the procedure itself
Our skilled team administers sedation carefully and monitors your vital signs throughout, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience
Your comfort and care are in excellent hands at Ferry Dental Centre. Our team is dedicated to helping patients feel at ease during their visits - particularly those experiencing dental anxiety.
We pride ourselves on never rushing our patients and taking time to explain treatment plans in detail. Our patient-centered approach has earned us multiple awards, including the Private Dentistry Award for "Best Patient Care" and recognition as one of the best dentists in Southampton by Three Best Rated for five consecutive years since 2018.
Yes, IV sedation is extremely safe when administered by our qualified professionals. Throughout your procedure, we constantly monitor your vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels to ensure your complete safety. IV sedation has been used safely in dentistry for many years and is an excellent option for patients with dental anxiety.
After sedation, you may feel drowsy for several hours. You'll need someone to drive you home and stay with you until the effects fully wear off. Most patients can resume normal activities by the following day. We recommend resting, staying hydrated, and avoiding alcohol, operating machinery, or making important decisions for 24 hours after your procedure.
No. While sedation helps you relax, we also use local anesthesia to ensure you don't feel pain during your treatment. The combination of sedation and anesthesia provides a comfortable experience. Many patients report they have little to no memory of the procedure afterward.
Most patients experience minimal side effects. You may feel slightly drowsy or lightheaded after the procedure, and some patients experience mild nausea or headaches that typically resolve quickly. Before your appointment, we'll provide complete pre- and post-treatment instructions and discuss any potential side effects based on your medical history.
